I was thinking about getting an axe cp to play with inside on rainy days and was wondering what everyone has to say about them and if they are worth the money. Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

I really wouldn't consider it a "living room" heli since its bigger than most in that class. More of a large garage, hangar or gymnasium. Its also a bit on the squirrely side.

Thanks for the reply. I think I may hold off and go ahead and invest in the trex. I appreciate the help.

I've had a couple of them and being new to the hobby, I haven't much with which to compare them. On the plus side, they are reasonable well designed, easy to repair and relatively cheap to acquire. On the downside, the extensive use of plastic parts means that you will be repairing it a lot. It comes with a brushed moter. The stock NiMH battery is good for maybe 5-7 minutes of flight and that's assuming you aren't doing anything crazy. The wood blades are vulnerable to blade strikes. You can get plastic ones that are a lot tougher but they are heavier and more likely to snap blade grips in the event of a blade mishap.

If you want an Axe CP, I'd suggest watching EBay and buying a used one perhaps with some hop ups and maybe a few extras thrown in rather than buying a new one. I'm not planning on hopping up my CP beyond where it is now (carbon fibre tail boom). It doesn't make sense to add CNC parts, brushless motor, LiPo, a gyro or better servos because by the time I've done that, I might as well have gotten a higher end heli to begin with. I intend to use it to develop a little more proficiency, sell it and then look for a TRex or an HDX. There are also other CP helis in this price range that have belt driven tails and better components (the Honey Bee helis, for example).

I have an AXE CP and I like it, but as has been stated, it's a bit too big for an "inside" heli. I picked up a Rotofly and buzz it around my living room. It's smaller than the AXE and still pushing the limits of size for indoors. Also, I'm beginning to detest tail motors. They just plain don't handle well. Coupled with rate-mode gyros on small helis, they're harder to fly than their bigger relatives.

I've done the separates mod with a heading-hold gyro on my AXE and it's much better, but I'm considering the belt-drive tail mod and brushless conversion. At that point, as you mentioned, I'll have a considerable amount invested in the heli. That's okay though, because I'm independently wealthy :) (NOT)

The Trex 450 is an excellent helicopter, but I'd say it's a strictly outdoors or large gymnasium size bird.

Thanks guys. Sorry it's been a while since I've posted. I've been busy with Southerners and school. I appreciate your input.

Bought and Axe a couple months ago to give electrics a try. Long time nitro guy and from my perspective this is not what I'd call great fun. Battery lasts about 3 minutes with decent power and then drags the heli around for another 3 minutes with great effort. This is the standard NiMi pack. I got gutsy after a few shakedown flights and flipped it on its back in the front yard. That was a mistake. Hovered inverted just inches off the ground and couldn't get out of ground effect enough to get back over. Ended up going into foward flight inverted to get enough lift to roll it back upright. Not my idea of a good time. How its marketed as being 3d out of the box is beyond my imagination? I don't want to be totally negative but I think most people are going to be dissappointed in small electrics if they have flown nitro. My guess is there are some really kick butt electrics but the price is sky high. Darned hard to beat a cheapo Hawk Pro with a nitro engine and basic radio. Just my thoughts.
