Hi! Guy’s
Now that my Hughes 500D is finish and ready to fly I am going to start a new build.
I decided to build a Mil Mi-24 attack helicopter. For me it is a big challenge because it is going to be biggest fuselage to date that I am going to do, there is a lot of part to mold.
Don’t hit on me to hard if you see some mistake because I don’t do that for a living there is no CNC machine at my house so I am not looking for perfection, and I wont compete in scale event. Here is a description of the real helicopter
The Mil Mi-24 is a large combat helicopter gunship and low-capacity troop transport operated from 1976 by the Soviet Air Force, its successors, and over thirty other nations.
Its NATO reporting name is Hind and variants are identified with an additional letter. The export versions, Mi-25 and Mi-35, are denoted as Hind D and Hind E respectively. Soviet pilots called the aircraft 'letayushiy tank' or flying tank. Another common nickname is 'Krokodil' (Crocodile) — due to the helicopter's camouflage and fuselage shape.
General characteristics
· Crew: 3 (pilot, weapons system officer and technician)
· Capacity: 8 troops or 4 stretchers
· Length: 17.5 m (57 ft 4 in)
· Rotor diameter: 17.3 m (56 ft 7 in)
· Wingspan: 6.5 m (21 ft 3 in)
· Height: 6.5 m (21 ft 3 in)
· Disc area: 235 m² (2,529.52 ft²)
· Empty weight: 8,500 kg (18,740 lb)
· Max takeoff weight: 12,000 kg (26 455 lb)
· Powerplant: 2× Isotov TV3-117 turbines, 1,600 kW (2,200hp) each
Performance
· Maximum speed: 335 km/h (208 mph)
· Range: 450 km (280 miles)
· Service ceiling: 4,500 m (14,750 ft)

After a little bit of research on the net I found this 3 view plan for it,

The next step was to project the plan on the wall with my wife projector to see the size it would be for my X-cell mechanic It came to a scale of 1:10 ruffly 69 inches long. After tracing all of the different view to the size I needed I made some pattern on some lite plywood and assemble every thing together I seed to my self wow it is going to be big. Here is a picture of it at this stage.

Next step of the build tomorrow

Hi guy's
Ok now for the next step, it is maybe not what some other guys would do but I am having good success with that technic. To have a hard surface on the plug I cover every thing with epoxy and a couple of coat of Fiberglass cloth, I let dry for 24 hrs and after that I add 2 to 3 coats of resin over the cloth to fill the weave.
this picture shows the first step done on the top cool

The second picture shows all the parts done, you can see the top cool in the middle it all ready received a second coat of resin on it,

A oder step I did was to cut the back part of the tail boom to have access for the installation of the tail rotor gear box and flex drive

Next step will be posted tomorrow

Hi guy's
after all of the fill coats was given and sanded smood it was time for a coat of primer, you can see the main fuselage primed and the tail boom just before the primer coat

after that step I build the turbine inlets

the next step was to make the resses for the side doors

the next step is the build of the side door

Hi guy's
Now is the time to build the plug for the doors.
The first picture shows the mold release agent its is very efficient and it is not expensive its regular masking tape

the next step is to pour some pondo in to it

When it harden you just sand every thing flush

Hand you repeat the step for all of the doors and voila the plugs for the doors are done

Bonjour
Lookin good. Question? What type of foam are you using. Experimented a little and the foam I used (out of my recyclin bin) doesn't sand out worth a hill a beans.

Hi bitsandpieces
Question? What type of foam are you using.
I am using the regular construction foam that you use as insulation for houses, I get mine at homedepot.

Hi guy's
Like I told you in the last post it is time to add some flanges to the openings
The first one is for the tail rotor gear box

The other one is for the junction of the tail boom

And the last one for the main fuselage
the flange before installation

After installation

The next post will be panel line and details
