used up another gallon trying to get rid of some weird gyrations which were not there my first gallon and a half. i get a side to side fairly fast shimmy when quickly transitioning from fff to a hover. it lasts for about 3 sec. then settles down but only happens when i do a quick transition. if i gently slow from fff to a hover it doesn't happen. I've also been fighting constant tail bobbing in all but fff. I balanced and tracked the blades, played with the pitch curve to get the head speed from 1700 through 2000 and the bobbing is still there. Then i realized that it all started about the time i upgraded the stock head with the ksj spindle/thrust bearing kit and ergo grips. so i take it all off and go back to the sloppy stock parts and the problems disappear. smooth as can be now. any ideas on why the ksj parts are causing this? is it possible the old stock dampers are the problem? if so, why do the problems disappear when using the old grip assemblys with all the slop in them?

thanks,
mike

What gyro are you using. You tried adjusting the gain? And what tail servo are you useing?

i'm using the G410T. the tail is not yawing at all. holding very well. the tail goes up/down not side to side. i had it in the air today and not a sign of any bobbing or side shake with the old stock grips and spindle. even got the headspeed down to 1750 and still smooth as can be. the dampers are the stock black ones. i am starting to think it's a tracking issue with the new ksj parts installed. the tracking looks spot on before lift off but i think i'm going to reinstall the ksj parts and play around with the tracking to see if it gets better or worse. any other advice (besides get a raptor) would be appreciated. i'm happy with the way it flys now but i would like to use the ksj upgrades.

thanks,
mike

I take it you went to a metal head ? If so blue dampers work best , unless your hard core 3D then red an Don`t forget to add a little lube. You said something about tracking....try this if that don`t work out!

stock plastic head. problems totally disappeared when using the original stock spindle/grips/bearing assemblys. i'm going to try the ksj parts again and play around with the tracking. Although it looks spot on with both stock and ksj parts, it's the only thing i can see that may make a difference between the new/old parts.

Going through the exact problem you are explaining hueyman. I was having a little bit of a tracking problem with the stock spindle/bearing setup but the heli was very flyable, rolls;loops;for/rev flips were no problem. I upgraded to the 6mm KSJ spindle/bearing thinking that getting the slop out of the grips would take care of it. WOW..things are really screwed up now. It does just exactly what you say, hovers fine but when in ff and transitioning back to a hover the thing goes into a SEVERE wobble. Getting it back on the ground is a handfull. Once on the ground and get it idled down the wobble will go away. Bring it back up to hover speed and everything is O.K. again. If you find out the answer here please post...I would like to get what was a good flying heli back to a good flying heli.
Thanks,

I tried tweaking the tracking with the new parts installed and things got worse so i think the tracking was good to start with, it looked good but i was out of ideas so i tried that first...it didn't solve the shakes or tail bobbing. Then I replaced the ksj spacers with the stock ones and things got better but still not as good as with the stock sloppy parts. the ksj spacers have an 1/8" tubular extension machined on one end that slips inside the damper making for a tighter fit to the spindle. the stock spacers just but up against the dampers. seems loosening up the spindle to damper fit got rid of the tail bobbing but the side shake is still there....not as violent but still there.

Yes, finally got some new stock dampers and greased them up real good. Cured the problem.
