I have an old O.S. 32 F-H that is the same way. Countless hours on it and smooth as silk. Not one problem from day one. Well we have to stick with what we know when it works for us.

By the way...if you actually FLEW on SUNDAY you are a God.
That WIND was enough to down any 747.

I didn't get out on Sunday, that was a little too windy. I did go out to the field yesterday in the snow and freazing rain. I started my Sceadu took it into a hover, and said what am I nuts? I hit the engine kill button and put everything in the car. It took me about five minutes to feel my fingers again!

Fun to read what you guys are up to, My C5 sits on the bench, all is well. We have had so much snow here at our location If I did not have a 4x4 we would never get to work, I live in the hills of Utah small cabin back side of S.L C. Sure have thought about getting the helicopter out.

Sorry I didn't check back sooner. The weather really stinks here in NJ too. I have been tinkering with my helis in the garage to pass the time. I can't wait for some descent weather. I have been flying some, but its a little too cold, I sometimes can't feel my fingers when I'm done!

For Monday on President's Day (18 Feb.) I took my Raptor out for a spin. That day was about 65 degrees fahrenheit ... and few days later it was down in the 20's ... there is no joy in flying in the Winter. If my fingers get numb I can't concentrate enough to fly well.

Nothing new on the home front Tommy. Just putting the finishing touches on the canopy that I am detailing from my Hirobo Schweizer. Yes the same one I crashed a few weeks ago. The Pactra Racing Red colour I used to spray this canopy was not the Pactra Bright Red I used to spray the last canopy that was wrecked. Soooo ... there are varying red shades shades on my scale bird which doesn't make me happy. LOL It looks a little odd but it was too late when I finally noticed and compared the new one with the old.

Good Luck with your 50! I had to sell my 50 on eBay some time ago after some money issues. It was brand new in the box and I planned on dropping it in a Hirobo Lama.

Thank you. It is designed for a .30 engine. I had a Thunder Tiger .39 in there a few years ago but I had lean run when the cheap Thunder Tiger metal throttle arm broke so I put an O.S. .37 in. I have a .50 sized engine mount for it that I was going to use in my Lama but I think the .50 is overkill now, the OS .37 will do just fine.

I found an issue with the caliber 5 flywheel. On the install on the crank, first a thrust washer, then the flywheel, then the clutch. When tightened I found that the flywheel wasn't tight and the clutch wouldn't tighten anymore, this caused a high frequency vibe. I have been chasing this vibe for a while, finally thinking it was the previous engine. To fix it I installed a 1/32 brass washer in between the clutch and the flywheel. I tested it about two hours ago and bingo, its working with no vibes! I know the engine wasn't the problem now, but hey I liked the YS 50 anyway! Tom p.s. I also put a new sb50 pipe on it too.

Excellent. At least you got to the root of the problem. Sometimes it takes many flights to isolate the source of the vibrations.

It took many flights. I bet 5 gallons. I thought it was the other engine, the tail, main rotor head, all the shafts, and had no idea. What a moron I am! I almost got rid of the heli. I'm happy now though. One of my fellow club members got rid of his because this same problem.

I went today for a little trimming session at my secret testing location, but went before the business left for the day and lets just say I was asked to leave, but not before I was able to check out the awsome power of the YS. I can't wait to fly it at my club field, as I am the only one flying a YS. Hopefully it will impress. Not my flying, just the power of the engine. Tom
