I have been having problems with my raptor 30 starting. The starter spins but it was not turning over the motor. I thought the one-way in the clutch was bad so I swapped it out with a new one I had and it does the same thing. I feel no pressure out the exhaust when trying to start it. What else could be causing this???

If the fan does not turn when the start shaft is turned counter clockwise, then there is still an issue with the start shaft / one-way / clutch / hex adaptor assembly.

1 hex adaptor could be loose on the shaft and spinning or it could be stripped out inside letting the starter just spin inside it.

If you can turn the shaft and hex adaptor (adaptor being tight on the shaft) by hand both ways with no resistance offered by the engine when turned counter clockwise and you see that the fan does not move then.

2 the start shaft could be worn where it fits inside the (NEW) one way or busted in two (being busted is remote and would have to be inside the pinion gear) the shaft could be pulled up and out of the machine if this is the case.

The start shaft has to touch the rollers in the one-way for it to work, if the shaft has worn to the point it does not touch these rollers when the one-way is relaxed it will not engage again when the shaft is turned. Being you have replaced the one-way with a new one a dirty one is remote and if the hex adaptor is tight on the shaft and the fan does not turn, I would check out the shaft end at the one-way first thing. But if your luck runs like mine the one-way is dirty (even the new one) and not working.

3 Heavy grease will cause a one-way to not work (if you greased it with the wrong grease then it will have to be cleaned up)

4 The 2 bolts holding the clutch may have sheared letting it spin with out turning the fan hub (If you replaced the one-way this should not be an issue being the one-way is at the clutch).

But if the fan is turning when you turn the shaft counter clockwise and not, when turned clockwise the problem is after the one way at the crankshaft/fan hub assembly or in the engine.

1 The fan hub could be loose on the crankshaft (stripped hub threads due to prop nut being loose) thus letting the fan spin on the crankshaft.

2 A busted crankshaft inside the engine (could be at the piston rod) letting the crankshaft turn with out moving the piston.

3 busted piston rod letting the piston travel up into the cylinder one time and it is now out of the way of the crankshaft again letting the engine crankshaft just spin with out moving the piston inside.

This covers everything that could cause what you describe barring a starter issue.

Good luck pinning it down.

Another possibility....and an easy one to fix....is if your starter is turning in the wrong direction. If you use a power panel, check to see if the leads to the starter are plugged in correctly. The only bad thing about this type of problem is that you feel like a total weenie after you fix it

I.ve dont that more than once and I feel like a total everytime I do it. But it kinda funny now.
red to red black to black god a monkey could do it. Why in hell do I have such prblems. Oh yea my starter leads are both yellow for some crazy reason.
