Hello All,

I am going to start this thread for Multiplex users but mainly for Profi 3030 and 4000 users.

We can trade information, techniques, and show that there are users and interest in having the Profi line continue on.

First item is the info for Ernie Pritchard .

For anyone who does not know about Ernie, Ernie did all of the service work for Multiplex Radios before the Hitech buyout of Multiplex. His work and Knowledge is of the first order! Ernie still does all repair and test and checkout on the Profi 3030 and 4000s.

In a conversation just a little while age Ernie told me that there is a non-user replaceable battery for memory backup that needs replacement every 4 or 5 years!

Every 2 or 3 years we should send our radios in for retuning and a general check up, the cost of this is much, much less than buying a new radio After the Crash!

Ernie's home phone = 928-474-2528, cell = 602-568-0688

Hello All,

On another forum Karlton Spindle replyed to a message and I will quote that message here. Karlton was the former importer of Multiplex, the orginal Multiplex USA. Karlton also did a lot Movie work using Multiplex radios.

The reason for my putting these messages up for all to see is to let the Multiplex 3030/4000 community and those interested to see whats going on - to let Hitech know what current users of the 3030/4000 think and to convince Hitech/Multiplex-Germany that is worth continued evolution for the 4000.

Multiplex Germany has two problems with the 4000.

First and most sadly the software programmer for the 4000 passed away, such a loss!

Second, the computer to 4000 interface software was DOS based and if you are using Windows XP, will too bad.

It seems the main reason for Hitech buying out Multiplex was so Hitech could have access to Multiplex's World wide distribution system. Hopefully this will not affect the Multiplex operation! Time will tell but if anyone tries to take my Profi 4000s I will defend them with my life!!!

The Messages:

George:

" Thanks for your reply and I "hear" what you say. However I am a concerned Profi 4000 user and, in my opinion, it is unproductive to talk about letter content if you are not able to elaborate. It only adds to my angst. Nonetheless, if MPX don't continue to support and develop the platform of the P4000 then more fool them. I believe the market is not mature enough to appreciate what the P4000 offers. Time will demonstrate that the P4000 software is what the market requires via built in mixers for the newbies or the flexibility of Universal for those that want a system to deliver what they can imagine. I will still continue with my 4000 in spite of Hitec. Interestingly, I did move from a Hitec to a JR an dthen the MPX. Does that say something about Hitec's capability to deliver?
Karlton, thanks for your comments. "

Karlton:

" George I would go further on the letter but I deleted it and do not want to miss quote. I too would hate to see the P4000 go away. It was to be a work in progress like Disney's Fantasia always being added to, up graded and evolving. With the passing of the main programmer MPX has never fully exploited the P4000 and what it can do.

On a movie I did with Disney (Inspector Gadget #1 a real dog of a movie I might add) we used four P4000s replacing Disney's own million plus dollar equipment because we could do everything faster with the P4000. Very complex mixing that required the help of MPX master Herr Schneider. We did things with the P4000 I did not think a radio could do!

They are still using the same four radios. That is really saying something because most of the time radios are considered expendables on movies. "

Jim,
I have a 4000 and plan on using a gy401. Do you have any experience with this gyro? I may either use a 9IPD or an electron 6.
Thanks,
Chris

Hello All,

I just sent my Profi 4000 in for a five year checkup, remember the memory backup battery needs to be replaced every 4 or 5 years and mine was just a little on the low side but I was lucky.

Back in November I noticed that my ground range had droped about 15% and as it turns out this matches how much my TX output power has dropped!!!

I sent in my receiver and transmitter so Ernie could check the tuning, the transmitter was 15% low in output and 250Hz off in frequency - the limit for frequency is 500Hz so it was OK but Ernie adjusted it spot on. All electronics will change over time so it is not unusual to need a little readjustment from time to time - this is true for all radios - JR - Futaba - Airtronics - Hitech ....

Earnie also did the latest factory mods for the TX and RX, and he replaced the RX antenna at my request - the new antenna has Teflon insulation and has a steel wire center core, the steel wire wraped with copper wire for strength. In normal use the plastic insulation becomes brittle and needs to be replaced.

Ernie also carefully checks the TX pots and switches. He even cycled the TX battery pack and tells you the results!

Everybody nomatter what radio you use should send them in for a 3 to 5 year check up ..... one crash is going to cost you much more!

On a side note - Ernie's wife has just returned home after having a serious Stroke - so Ernie Pritchard is taking Loving Care of his Wife and of our Multiplex Radios!!! My hats off to you Ernie!

This is going to be a great resource. I was at the MHA fly-in this weekend and out of 130+ pilots I think I was the only 4000 user.

I am new to the heli programing. I got the 4000 when I was flying sailplanes and saw no reason to give up such a great radio when I started flying helis again.

Will this be the place for programming questions? I can figure out most everything by using a combination of the manual and trial and error but there is a TON of stuff I can not figure out.

What type of trays do you all use?

What is the best replacement for the Tx battery. Right now I have tired 1800 Mah Ni-cads. I get the feeling that there is something better

Thanks

Ray

Hello n1lul,

There is a 2300 maH TX battery and I think Ernie can do a 3000 maH TX battery for you.

Ernie can also turn your TX into a Single Stick Radio for you, will you will have three controls on one stick but you will still have two sticks and use a TX Tray.

When I lived in Japan I got the parts from JR and converted my PCM9 into a single stick radio and used a TX tray just like the Multiplex - Worked Great. I mixed the signal from the old Tail Rotor control with the new control on the 3-axis stick - the old control supplied 20% movement and became my new Tailrotor trim - I removed the spring and added enough friction until I could move the throttle without moving the trim. I have thought about doing this with my MC4000 but with Heading Hold Gyros maybe I wouldn't need the trim - then again maybe 4% trim range instead of 20%.

I use the Multiplex tray.

Hello All,

By the time I arrive back in the USA, 12 Nov; I should have an ACT S3D/DSL Receiver/RF module Multiplex conversion waiting for me.

Check out my

I found My F3C Heli

post in the compitition forum for more information.

The ACT system is very impressive and I am looking forward to testing soon.

Multiplex has announced to its dealers that they will have a 2.4GHz system to be out next year but given Multiplex USA's lack of support for the EVO and their stated nonsupport for the MC3030 and MC4000 series Radios I will go with ACT!

I'm hoping Jim Mahoney can help me with this. I have been flying my 4000 with fixed wing only for about 6 years now so I'm reasonably familiar with it but I have a problem setting up for helicopters. I am using it for a Trex 450 eCCPM and cannot figure out how to set up to switch the gyro between heading hold and normal. Any help would be much appreciated.
