There's been a lot of talk about the Eyetop’s and the problem with the waviness in the lens I just got the newer version. The quality of the TV screen is very good. I still don't like the lens. It’s not bad in until you get the heli out there and then I have a hard time focusing.
So I set out to get a lens made. I found one place that would do it but it was going to cost me way too much money. I think personally I would pay a little more, if the quality of the lens was better. So I guess I will just live with it, and then one day it hit me as I was reaching for my Oakley's. I pulled the lens off my sunglasses and held them up to the Eyetop's, hey this could work. So I took the Eyetop's apart which was very easy and headed down to the mall. I ended up buying the M.frame lens made by Oakley. And with some masking tape, pencil and hobby grinder I fixed my problem and it only cost me 30 bucks.

Here's how I did it.

(1) Take the Eyetop's apart. The right side with the TV screen you wiggle it back and forth, it comes right off. The left side just push in on the clip, very easy.

(2) Take the M.frame lens and cover it with masking tape. Place the lens from the Eyetop on top of the M. frame. You will need to center it top to bottom right to left. And then draw it out with the pencil.

(3) Now it is time to cut it out I used a hobby grinder with a cutting and sanding wheel. Leave things a little on that tight side, we want a tight fit. You can adjust them later. Take your time. The M. frames cut very easy.

(4) Now it's time to put it together. The right side with the TV screen slides right in and stays there. Make sure you do not force it or it will distort the lens. You might have to sand a little more for a good fit. The left side requires some tweaking. You could use about anything to glue it on if you want to. I wanted to make mine so I can change the lenses. To do this you will need to use some kind of tape to build up the front side of the lens for a tight fit so it will not fall off. I also slowly heated the Eyetop’s left side frame and reshape it for a better fit.

(5) The nose piece that is on the Eyetop pops write off and fit almost perfect on the M. frames. You do not want to use the one that came with the M. frame. The Eyetop’s nose piece has the right spacing for the TV screen.

It works extremely well and it will not break the bank. It is a little bit more flimsy then the original lens but at least I can see now. I really liked the ability to change my lens. This was just the way I did it. There's more then one way to skin a cat. Oh by the way it took about 30 minutes on the first one and about 5 on the second one. If you try this and have something to add that would be great.

I will post a bunch of pictures; I kept them separate so it would be easier to print this page.

Have fun be safe

Another option if you don't like the Oakley's
I went down to the local tool store and picked up a replacement lense for their safety glasses for nine dollars
and it works very well

Have fun be safe
