Hello, new user here with a question on setting up a gasser (this is my first gas heli). I have a new to me bergen gasser with the hansen modified motor, and the Bergen exhaust (on order), 700 carbon mains, gv-1, and gy 502 gyro, 9252's all around except tail 9253. I am working on setting up the machine now and plan to follow Bills engine advice. My question is about setting up the gv-1. What head speeds work well in this application? The other question is about using the Futaba 9chp and the gv-1 what is the recommended switch set up/assignments. Thanks.

I suppose about 1400 rpm rotor rpm must be close to the best one. Your engine and blade size are very different to the ones I use as you have more power and shorter blades as mine.
Another thing you can do if you know at witch rpm aprox your engine gives the better torque is to calculate how many rpm corresponds to the rotor basing in the gear relation. May be it is a stupid idea but should be logic imo.

Welcome to the group. Congrats on your choice on a bergen ship. Head speed at 1650 and no less. As it breaks in the
carb settings will require re adjustment from time to time.
I have around 100 hours of flight time on my bergen gasser. After around 8 gallons you will notice quite an incress in power. Make sure you run the air cleaner or a carb stack as setting the needles will be impossible if you dont. Engine and blade loading is different with gas. Read all the past posts by Bill Meador. Dont hesitate to call the Bergen crew. Larry Bergen is most helpfull too. Just wait till you
fly this new ship and tell us what you think. I would not trade mine for anything, my x-cell 60 glow heli has not flown since. Again welcome to the world gas heli's >>Vapor<<
Take a look at a video of my bergen gasser at
