Hello, I will start by saying this is the first heli I have built (I hope it flies). It seemed straight forward until the electronics were to be installed. The manual is good at pics, and maybe this is intuitive for ppl with experience, but it seems rather cramped. I saw the videos at helifreak, but this appears to be a different body as I do not have the slant for the battery on the front (SE vs. XL ccpm kits?). So my battery is on the bottom, and I do not see a good place for the ESC. My buddy talked me into this saying it would be a good learning experience and I would understand heli's better. So far I have learned that I like ARF's more...

Also, wondered if gyro was mounted OK, and any trick to mounting the motor on the main gear (seems real tight)?

I have attached the pic above, and have more at http://www.donotuse.org/TrexHELLo.html

Any advice is always apprecaited.

Thanks!

Setting the pinnion gear mesh can be an art. You want it tight but not too tight. If i feels tight and not smooth then it's probably to tight. You will want the main gear to move just a small amount.

To tight and you will eat the main gear, same thing if it's to lose.

When mounting the radio gear it would be best to keep the ESC away from the RX and gyro so you dont get radio hits. Try mounting the ESC under the frame of the helicopter. Your limited as to where you can mount the RX. I guess try putting the RX on top of the battery. It would just it a pain to change out the battery. Your just going to have to try and see what works out.

Also for mounting the radio gear I mount my ESC under the frame on the bottom.

Thanks Rudy. I didn't think outside the frame. I saw pictures online where they have the ESC towards the back of the chasis, and the rcvr is practically sitting on top of it, this didn't look good to me. I will try monutning on the bottom. Just got my DX7 today! Thanks again.

Just wanted to say thanks. I have all the electronics placed, got all gear installed. Just need to clean up the wiring, and figure out this logitech gyro, and I think I am good. Thanks for the suggestions. I used a piece of paper between the gear and the motor as a gauge, and it seems ok.

Regards,
AK

Don't spent to much time cleaning up the wiring until you have flown it first.

You may have to move stuff around if you find you are getting radio hit's.

Rudy is right. I have my RX mounted on the nose above the battery and my ESC inside the rear cage thing and my gyro on the side of the frame.

Personaly I think its more important to worry about radio interference than balenceing it out. My T rex balences out very well, but im not sure how yours will since it looks like the CCPM version.

Actually it looks like you have that supped up 3D version with all the blue aluminum and CF frames..

Hey Zio, Actually standard XL kit, added the head later. Thinking I need to find a tail to match that nice look! Raning for the next few days eventhough the temp is great, so i guess wait to play till later... Thanks guys for all the help, I am sure to be back after the first disaster. I am learning that flying Heli's seems to be mostly repair work for me!

You added the head? This might sound rude and blunt but take it off! Fly the stock head first. Here is why, how much did you pay for that nice and shiny CNC aluminum rotor head? How much was the plastic head? They both perform the same goal, and work fine but the alumuinum one cost more and is more likely to break something deeper in the system like the main shaft (well, bend it atleast)

Just trying to help you out, the head IS nice but you really should break the plastic one first, its cheaper. I have never broken a part on my Trex yet, its built very well and is stable, just relax and take your time, and youll have a good time and a new addiction!

For your training gear, try ping pong balls instead. Lighter, and easier to drill holes in. :)
Just a suggestion. :)
