Hello All,
If I had planed on buying a Turbine this year ... will I won't!
Instead my son Karl and I have gone in together to buy a CNC Milling machine and start out own business.
For anyone interested in a nice milling machine check out the Tormach.
Tormach PCNC 1100

Hello Crash&Burn, will I hope not too often!
The machine is for our business but it won't be delivered until the later part of Nov. 2006 - then we have to get it setup and fully checked out. As with anything it will take a little time to get ourselves up to speed with the machine.
If you need it soon then you may want to look around, else in time we may be able to help.

Hello Zio,
The basic machine is $6,800 but once we added the 4th axis rotory table and all the other things needed to do some real work then it is about $12,400 --- thats why I won't be buying a turbine this year, besides there is more stuff to get.
This purchase is an investmet for our future so I feel very good about the whole deal.
Karl is into mechanical design, in high school he designed and built working 50cc gas engines and since then he has designed and built severial working turbines. Recently I had him design a swashplate, one that can be taken apart for maintainence and which has several other features that I wanted. The result is the buying of the Tormach 1100. Years ago I bought him a CAD Drawing package and he learned to use it very well, he was already good at doing old fashion Drafting so he had some advantage there. So you can see that this has been an evolutionary process.
Check out if any of the local scools in your area have evening classes in machining and CNC.
Go to the Alibre website and download their Free Alibre Express 3D Modeling program.
Alibre
The latest package, Alibre Expert, has Motion Analysis and FAE type single part stress analysis ( Algor ) - the reason I like Alibre is because they are offering what the more expensive packages offer and they are evolving much more quickly that Solid Works or Audo Cad.
The other feature is the Team Design feature, we can work together over the internet on a design at the same time, Karl makes a change to a drawing and I see it as he is doing it, I live in San Jose and he lives in Rosevile. We can use the same feature to get help from one of the experts at Alibre, we go online with them and work on a problem in real time!
It looks like you are already doing well with your Robotics project! Keep up the good work and never stop designing things!

Will the machine arrived in good condition, it and it's computer are being set up, can't wait until its put to work.
It looks very good, looks and the workmanship, now to learn as much as we can to put it to best use.

Why I won't Buy A Turbojet this Year 01-01-07 06:09 PM - Post#80297
In response to Jim Mahoney
Hello All,
I got up to Roseville to see the Tormach in action and I am impressed. Karl is getting along the learning curve just fine.
There were some problems along the way though:
After setting up the emachine and running the machine for a while, one of the controller boards blew up taking out the computer! After he discribed the problem, Tormach sent a new controller board (also a new design) and A New Computer, we didn't buy the computer with the machine. Now thats service!
The machine has about 10 more hours running time now with no other misshaps. You do need to have a good size working space to setup this machine.
Happy flying,
