Hi all,

I want to get everyone's opinion on this: What do you consider to be the most realistic

simulator (physics only) for hovering? This question is geared toward the beginner, so let's

not consider anything else at this point, such as graphics quality or the number of

airfields.

I've tried FMS, Easyfly, Areofly Pro 1.6.8 & RealFlight G2 & G3. For my money, out of those

four (and I'm sure I'm stating the obvious here), RealFlight G3 wins, hands down. For more

advanced maneuvers, it may still be on top, but I'm not advanced enough myself to say.

I think this information is extremely useful for beginners because they can invest in the

right simulator for a beginner, regardless of cost, and still be ahead financially if they

need to move to a simulator better suited for their more advanced needs, considering the

amount of money they'll save on spare parts.

Let me know what you think.

Howdy Jim,

I started with G2 and it got me going ... then I quit using it altogether.

Recently, I've wanted to get one of the newer sims to see if it would help improve some of my weak spots. I did some shopping and asking around. What I found was that my computer wasn't up to the task ... so I put the sim on hold until I got the new computer.

A couple of weeks ago ... I finally got a new computer and went with G3 ... the biggest reason was that I was familiar with the older G2 and there's a newer G3.5 coming out this fall which their advertising claims has improved physics. It's a free update from G3. We'll see ... I really don't see much wrong with their physics now.

After farting with it ... I'm not disappointed. It does however, take a reasonably new and quick computer to run it. Something over 3+ ghz processor speed, 256 meg of "dedicated" video memory, and at least 1 gigabyte of memory. If you've got the computer ... G3 seems to stand above the rest ... IMHO.

If your computer is something less than what they recommend ... then Reflex would've been my choice. From what I've seen of it and played with it ... it's a darn nice simulator also and not quite as demanding on the computer.

Beyond that ... I'm not familiar with the rest. Frankly, any simulator is better than going without ... especially if you're starting out.

Keep in mind however, the simulators will only train your fingers and the basics of the maneuvers ... none of them will be like the actual experience of flying. Close ... but never there.

Larry,

Care to compare Reflex to G3 for us trying to make up our minds?

TIA

I was able to try Reflex and G3 side by side on 42inch screen's. I went with the reflex because "I" liked it better. Can't really say what it was but there was something. However it was not much. I think that either sim will work great for you and once you have it installed and working on your computer you will be happy with either one.
If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy
all that ACME crap,
why didn't he just buy dinner?

Howdy Steve,

I agree with Rudy ... Reflex actually feels a bit better ... however ... that's somewhat of a judgment call that I'd find difficult to defend. The Reflex I tried was on a fast computer ... so perhaps that was making a difference?

Reflex is less demanding of the computer, however ... G3 comes with a decent little controller(although you'll want to tweak it) that I prefer above having to get out my transmitter and G3 is perhaps better maintained and supported by more pilots with add on models, etc. I'm hoping that G3.5 version will be an improvement ... in which case ... it'll clearly be tough to beat. I also like the idea of the stock Add-ons ... a bit more expensive ... but ... you can get what you want or need.

I'm not sure how Reflex handles their updates, but G3 does it automatically ... so you know you have the latest greatest version. I'm in love with that concept.

Both products are really awesome ... when you think about what they do. Damned amazing frankly ...

Enjoy ...
