If your gyro was operating normally the last time you flew and now it is wagging, make sure to check your gyro tape for deterioration. This can cause your tail to hunt if the tape is soft from oil. |

Don't attach anything else to a gyro on a helicopter. Mount the gyro firmly to the heli, but do not pile (stick) something on top. (voltage monitors, etc) THe vibrations of the heli will shake whatever you mount to the gyro and cause the gyro to shake resulting in excessive tail wagging.

Don't buy the latest fangled gyro with super speed servos if you can't fly that well.Helicopters are already hard to set up and fly as they are;who wants to make their life more miserable by learning to set up a gyro. Also with every crash the settings are bound to change,so just when you thought you mastered the settings, another thing happens... |

Does your tail 'wag' in forward flight but seems fine in a hover? The gain is likely just slightly too high for forward flight. If your gyro is capable of dual rates, you can use one for hovering and the other for forward flight. |

Having a problem? More often than not it might be your tail servo than the gyro itself (If you have looked at the above tips given). Keep a spare tail servo handy that is a known good one just for the purpose, it doesn't have to be an expensive one, but by a fast swap you can see fi you really have a gyro issue, or tail servo issue.

A big mistake that many make with the GY401 & 240 is to think they can trim it in "normal" mode with the trim lever on the radio, and then switch it to HH mode and it should work... IT MUST be trimed "mechanically" in Normal Mode first by adjusting the LINKAGE until it hovers with the radio trim in neutral... Then the heading hold mode will work correctly, providing you have installed the gyro correctly & have free and non-binding linkage all the way through...

not enough piro speed even with 150% ATV? use a mix to blend out gyro rate the more stick input you give. start slowly (blending out 20% or so) and go from there. that way you will get superfast piros and 900 stall turns are a piece of cake ? |

A lot of gyro tail wags, "kicks", drift and other minor problems can be traced to the engine tuning. Heading hold setups can be pretty sensitive. If you see a drift or kicking, listen to the engine, you may need a couple of clicks on the needle. |

Hi everyone... I can across a problem everyone in my club was having witht their gyros ( mainly 401's). Switching on heading hold after hovering good, the machine will drift to on side or the other.. If you switch the heading hold on and off 3x's... slowly.. as in one onethousand, two onethousand.. etc.... this resets gyro and no more drifting.. Sweet !!! Good Luck everyone..Peace |

If your tail starts wagging all of the sudden on your Raptor 30 with the TT 36, you need to check your glow plug. I've ALWAYS found that when my tail starts wagging all of the sudden, my plug is fouling and the RPM is changing a little bit. |

The Piezzo Gyros are a great alternative for cheaper helicopters, and smaller helicopters. You can get them for around 100 dollars. |
