Hi,

Just looking for opinions on the Hirobo Freya as compared to other heli's of the same size. Some comments I've received from local heli flyers as well as others I've personally met, around the country tell me;

"Freya 60 is like all other 60's, it's like picking a Ford or a Chevy"

"The Freya 60 fuel tank has been known to fall out when your in the air"

"Parts for the Freya 60 are expensive as compared to othr heli's (Raptor) plus hard to get"

Just wanted to hear your thoughts and comments about the Freya as compared to other heli's you have owned or are familiar with.

To a certain extent, that's true. There aren't really any bad kits out there. If you like the looks of the Freya, then go for it. It's a fine machine.

Under certain conditions (namely high speed pirouettes), the tank can liberate itself because of the method of tank mounting. BUT... one little piece of velcro or whatnot, tied around the tank, cures the problem.

Not true. The Freya helis have very reasonable cost pieces. (The Raptor is still cheaper, but that's mostly by virtue of tremendous volume.) You want expensive parts? Go by a Fury or Vigor. As far as "full size" birds go, the Freya is quite reasonable, and HeliProz and Rick's have parts in stock at decent prices.

By the way, in the new issue of Rotory magazine (November/December issue), there's a good "long-term" writeup about the Freya that I think you'll like. In fact, he has a good picture of a strap mod he did for the fuel tank (a point he mentions in the article) to keep it from spitting out.

By way of mention, one of my good friends locally flies 2 Freyas (a 60 and an 80), and an Evo 50. His Freyas have held up very well for him, and they seem like a fine bird to me.

Thanks again, I did read the Freya article, in Rotory, with great interest. I even sent the author an e-mail with a couple of Freya/Raptor 60 questions I had. Do you, by chance, fly the Hirobo Freya 60?

I'm upgrading to either a Raptor or Hirobo 60 and was looking for information pertaining to the quality of both heli's. I've seen and flown a Raptor 60 but I've never seen or flew a Hirobo Freya 60(not the EX)so I'm "out there" just trying to get quality opinions on the Freya.

Nope. Not yet. My budget (for the moment at least) won't allow a new bird.

You hit on 2 of my 3 favorites, though. Depending on how much money I had, if I were in the market for a new 60/90 class bird, it would either be the Raptor 90, the Freya, or the Bergen Intrepid (the Intrepid is, by far, the more expensive of the three, so that's why I qualified it with "depending on how much money").

Really, you can't go wrong with either the Raptor or the Freya. They're both highly capable machines. Honestly, buy whichever one trips your trigger. Either one will offer you lots of enjoyment.

Both machines are very good helis. Look at what Alan Szabo does with his machines. There is no question they work. I like the Freya over the Raptor because I wanted a belt drive tail. It's that simple. Both machines will serve you well, both have good parts support and both have their own little unique problems for you to solve/put up with.

The Freya has a number of gear ratios to choose from, the stock Freya needs a few upgrades to make it 99% reliable but they are fairly light on the wallet. The Raptor is not immune from needing a few upgrades too, that is why there is an SE. The Freya has the X-Spec as well.

Speaking of Mr. Szabo Sr., I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours with him last Thursday while I was in Vegas. When he learned I had never seen or flew a Raptor 60 he quickly fired his up and said fly it. WOW...talk about shattered nerves. All I could think about, with sweating hands and fingers, was I did NOT want to be the guy who went down in the "Heli Hall Of Fame Book" as the guy who crashed Allan Szabo's Raptor 60!!!

We had a great time together...Allan Szabo Sr. is a great guy to know..........

The entire Szabo family are a class act. Very nice folks and the machines don't fly too bad either. <G>.

Either one will work and if I didn't have the Freyas the Rap 90SE would be great.

I had an x-spec. it was my first 90 and i can honestly say it flew great. Very stable, tracked like an arrow, and great for 3d. I will get another one once the funds get better. and on top of that Jeff G is a great guy. his customer service is the benchmark that others are measured by!
